About

Tricky this, a bit like getting a tattoo. For starters, I’m not much good at laying down something which is FOREVER, so lots of this’ll probably change…

I am a typical gemini. i.e. changeable – I’ve a terrible tendency to pick things up in an obsessive way only to replace them with a new obsession). This is something I’m continually battling with.

I’m English, but have been living in Rome for the past few years. My husband (and dog) are Irish, and we’re about to make a move over to Galway in Ireland and begin a new and exciting life there.

I’m married. To a lovely man called Patrick. We met here in Rome nearly seven years ago, and have stuck together through thick and thin ever since. I always wondered if I would ever meet a soul mate, and despite our ups and downs I can’t imagine waking up next to anyone else. As a friend once said, if there ever was a nuclear war and we got stuck in a bunker alone together for years, we’d actually be alright! We also have the best dog in the whole world, the Bean, who is nearly 3. Although she’s making it harder for us to rent a house in Ireland I would never want to imagine life without her.

I’m a pagan. Well really I struggle to define exactly what I would call myself, but I also believe that everyone who categorises themselves into the broader eclectic world of modern day paganism needs to show a bit more solidarity so that eventually paganism may be taught to children in our schools. I suppose really i’d call myself a gnostic pagan. I don’t feel entirely comfortable with much of the ritual organisation of wicca, and i’m very drawn to hedgewitchery, but I’m currently walking my (meandering) path alone. Hoping to find a few like-minded souls in Ireland!

I try to be as creative as possible. Aside from my problems in seeing projects through to completion, I love creating things. Whether it’s painting, sculpture, photography, sewing or other media, I love having ideas and actually making lovely things. Again I’m hoping to develop this side of me in the coming years.

I am optimistic. I always try to see the best in people and situations.

I am very concerned about the environment. Patrick calls me a catastrophist but my point is that we have to wake up to the coming problems and do something about them so that we can salvage all that’s best about our culture before it’s too late. I’m hoping to get involved in community grass roots action once we’re settled in Galway. I like reading about permaculture, sustainability, natural building techniques and all that ‘good life’ stuff. Bring on the chickens and goats…

I love music. Although Patrick is totally obsessed (and I claim can at times be a music fascist) I have always loved listening to music. My all time favourites would have to be Bob Dylan, Beatles, Nick Drake, Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Doors, Janis, Stones, Pink Floyd, Velvet Underground, Nico and Jefferson Airplane. Plus (although I know they’re a bit cheesy) John Denver, James Taylor and Don McLean. I am trying to introduce some modern music into my playlist, but I really think I lived a past life as a late 60s music freak.

I am a bit of a geek. As the daughter of a librarian I was brought up and genetically programmed to read. I love reading and have always been somewhat avid. I must admit recently my internet obsession has reduced my reading time, as has 2 hours a day spent in Roman traffic (oh for the days of the London Underground!). But I’m hoping to get back on track once I’m in Galway.

Well that’s enough self-analysis for now.

  1. Judging by this page, I will look forward to reading as you go along. I recently started blogging myself (and of course I hope people eventually find and like it) but just writing it (so far I’m managing to post once a week) is wonderful — I feel like a pressure cooker that just found out how to open the relief valve. I’ve never heard of hedgewitchery — what is it?
